Successful Internet Marketing Without A Budget

The following excerpts were taken from an interview held with successful web marketer Darren Cronian in June 2005.

LM:You are successfully promoting Worldwide Holiday Homes, without a marketing budget. Is this a decision you took out of necessity or choice?

DC:Certainly out of necessity - I dream of the day when I can spend thousands of pounds on marketing my business.

Build Your Inbound Site Links Without Requesting Reciprocal Links

A funny thing happened to me three months ago. I decided to practice what I preach and publish a new article online. Hey, its easy to get sidetracked on other projects online and drop or forget about what works. We all do it.

It started when I was in a particularly good mood and itching to write about something I could publish online. I decided to post it for free on four article hosting and distribution sites. The four I chose were PermanentAds.net, GoArticles.com, Article-Emporium.com and EzineArticles.com.

I Was at the Point of Giving Up With My Website - Then Something Wonderful Happened!

This wasn’t meant to sound like one of those “rags to riches” stories but for me, it sure seems that way.

Hello. My name is Gary Simpson. I live in Perth, Western Australia.

My internet presence commenced in August 2002 after I signed up with what has now become known as a notorious web-host company (if they could be called that). They fleeced me for several thousand dollars at an all day “seminar.” I exchanged good money for a litany of broken promises, inferior template design, ongoing costs and shocking service. Ouch! Welcome to the world wide web Gary!

The Quest In Advertising Your Website

Website advertising, the unending quest of every website owner. And Free is a word I work towards. But free on the net has many different meanings. And many of them are just not free at all. An effective means of advertising I have found, as I am sure many of you also have discovered, are the traffic surfing sites. So gain an advantage. Register your main website url on a few traffic surfing sites, or many of them, as I choose to do. And put into the mix advertising for a few of the different traffic surfing sites themselves.

10 Facts About Search Engines

10 Facts About Search Engines

 by: Susan Carroll

As you well know, getting a good listing on the search engines can

really help get some good, quality traffic to your site.

But how do you get a good listing? That’s the million dollar question.

Rather than explain how search engines select the top sites or how to trick them into listing your site in the top 10, let’s learn some of the facts about search engines.

Now in case you’re wondering why I don’t just give you the ‘magic’

formula or algorithm for getting a good search engine placement I’ll

give you:

Fact Number 1: Search engines change their formula frequently in an

attempt to keep quality sites at the top of the listing. They do this because of all the attempts to ‘trick’ or ‘fool’ them and, to

stay popular with their users, they need to list the most

relevant sites first.

Fact Number 2: Every search engine has it’s own formula for determining the sites and the ordering of the sites it will list. And even though they all use many of the same factors in their formulas, there is no 1 formula that will work for all of them.

As for giving you some of the tricks that others have tried to use to get good search engine placement, I’ll just say that the tricks that have worked in the past like using misleading meta tag keywords and embedding hidden keywords don’t work today and the new tricks

like creating lots of ’spam’ sites using automatic search engine

page creators won’t be working much longer.

Fact Number 3: Search engine owners know the tricks being used and develop ways to filter them out.

Now that you know that there is no 1 ‘magic’ formula and using a ‘trick’ won’t work for long, you should also know:

Fact Number 4: Search engines do ‘black list’ sites they consider

’spam’ and block them from being listed.

Because of all the articles and products about Google, you may think that Google has become the search engine of choice. And while Google is gaining in popularity,

Fact Number 5: Google still hasn’t captured Yahoo’s number 1position.

Even though Google isn’t number 1,

Fact Number 6: Using ‘good advice’ on how to improve your Google position will also help you with your placement on Yahoo and many other search engines.

Some of ‘good advice’ for getting a good position is to have a site

with good content and to use your keywords within your content. But the web has become so big that there are now thousands, even hundreds of thousands, of pages competing for the same keywords.

Because of this explosion in the number of pages available for generic keyword searches,

Fact Number 7: Search engine users are now adding more descriptive

terms in their searches.

Another fact that most people don’t realize about search engines is

that:

Fact Number 8: Search engines don’t rank or list web sites, they rank and list web pages. That means every page of your site has the

potential to be listed if you set it up properly.

Since we’re getting into the realm of less known search engine facts, let’s talk about how

Fact Number 9: Search engines use their own traffic tracking

information to help determine which sites to list. If they see that

they have a top site that continually gets visited for a brief amount of time and the searchers usually come back and continue looking, the search engine may determine the site is of little value and either move it down on the list or remove it.

The last fact isn’t really about search engines but has been included to help you measure your progress as you work to improve your search engine positions.

A couple of terms you’ve probably seen many times are ‘Google Page Rank (PR)’ and ‘Alexa Traffic Ranking’. While both measure different things,

Fact Number 10: Google PR and Alexa Traffic Ranking are 2 of the best indicators on how well your search engine optimization work is going. Improving your Google PR and your Alexa Traffic Ranking can help you get a better search engine position.

Internet 2005: The Ten Billions Pages Search Engines

To see each and every page during 10 seconds would take 694 days 24/24. The leading search engines fight to be the first that oversteps this level. In the meantime the key word “sex” has been typed about 20′000′000 times on the entire web and Google found 333′000′000 results for this query in January 2005.

According to Wordtracker “sex” leads the top 200 long-term keywords on a database of 368′159′632. The 2nd and the 3rd word are also sexual but ruder.

The Power of Search Engine Friendly URLs

I recently invested quite some time into generating search engine friendly URLs for several of my websites to increase my ranking and to have more pages indexed. I can highly recommend to look into this if your own website does not have se-friendly URLs. Especially Google (the most important search engine nowadays) can be very picky in regards to URLs that are not se-friendly.

Example (the 2 URLs below bring you to exactly the same page):

SEO Made Easy - Winning Tactics For Internet Business Success

SEO Made Easy - Winning Tactics For Internet Business Success

 by: Joe Borges

Search engines are very difficult to completely understand. There are no complete explanations of how their ranking algorithms work. But the very fact that the average person does not intuitively know how to crack the search engine algorithms leads to all sorts of the same questions, usually variations of: “How do I get my website to the top of the search engine results pile?”

Search engine optimization is not magic or something equally difficult to understand. Instead, it is a step-by-step process and you should look at it that way. It can be summarized in the following points:

* An understanding of how search engines think.

* Knowing what search engines want

* Learning proven optimization techniques

* Applying your knowledge time and time again (experience - commonly known as trial and error!).

Of course, SEO is not completely explained by these four sentences. An automated software solution can give you the knowledge and tools to learn and implement SEO on your website with exceptional results. Success on the internet all boils down knowing how to implement Search Engine Optimization better than your competitors and getting it right the first time. If you do this, you will give your internet business that competitive edge.

However, if you have implemented SEO strategies correctly, and if you are still not seeing your website rank anywhere near where it should be on a particular keyword, then you may have one of the following problems:

* Your website may have been sandboxed (specific only to Google).

* Your website might be penalized or even removed from the index by a search engine for going against a stated guideline.

* A search engine might think that you are spamming them.

In the first case, you will have to “wait it out” with Google, while consolidating on your positions in the other search engines by continuously building links and adding content. You will not encounter the second case if you use and implement a very good automated SEO tool and understand exactly what the search engines will and won’t permit.

However, like I said in the beginning, search engines are notoriously difficult to understand - their algorithms change by the second - and sometimes it is possible to all the right things and still not be ranked correctly. Search engines don’t always get this part right. Called over-optimization by the major search engines, there is actually a lot of debate over this issue.

I know that optimizing your website and getting it listed is one of the hardest things to do. Believe me, I’ve been there. But now that you’re armed with the information to get started, why not look for that automated SEO tool that will make your life easier and start you on the road to getting your site listed and ranked!

SEO

 by: Mary Ann Wells

As anyone in the SEO business will tell you, the number of quality links pointing to your site can improve the overall ranking of your site. This does not mean that you should submit your site to every directory you can find and, in fact, submitting your site to some directories won’t do you any good at all and could even cause your site to drop in ranking. Let’s explore the types of directories available and which ones you should consider submitting to.

Free-For-All

While the concept of free may sound enticing, many of these “Free-For-All” directories may be considered nothing more than link farms by some search engines and might hurt your site’s rankings if you rely on a lot of these for listings. On top of that, they are not likely to bring you any significant or targeted traffic. This does not mean that all directories that accept free listing are “free-for-all” directories. You should visit the directory site and determine if the links at this directory are quality links. Are you allowed to submit your site to the proper category? Are you allowed a brief description of your site?

If the directory has a category for the services or goods that you are offering and allows you a brief description of your site, I would suggest you submit to it IF your listing will be search-engine-friendly.

What is a search-engine-friendly listing?

This is a static link that goes back to your site. For example: www.mydomain.com is a static link while www.thisdirectory.com?id=123 CatID=456 is a dynamic link. When there is a “?” in the URL this is a redirected link and will not count as a direct link to your site by the search engines. Now, by design all directories use a database to store your listing information and rely on programming to call up that listing. This is where the redirected URL comes from: the id is the record number of your listing. The dynamic URL allows the directory owner to track the traffic you receive from this listing. However, most directories can and should also include in your listing a direct hyperlink to your site. Sometimes the direct link will be the title of your listing, sometimes it might be separate within the listing.

If the directory does not have a static link to your site, there’s no point in listing your site unless the directory is specific to the audience you wish to address. An example of a directory to have your site included in despite the lack of a static link might be an online directory supplied by a business association that you belong to or a trade magazine buyer’s guide assuming the trade magazine applies to your audience.

Some of the highest quality links require monetary input, however. Associations usually require membership to list your site, trade publications generally only list advertisers. Many popular online directories also want you to subscribe to their advertising programs and your ranking position within those directories is usually based on the amount of advertising dollars spent. While they may say you can list your site for free, the truth is that your site will probably never see the light of day in ranking position at that directory if you don’t purchase their advertising package.

While it is getting more difficult to find quality directories that provide a static link to your site without a listing fee or that require only a small listing fee, there are some available. If you offer industrial goods and services, you’ll want to list your site at http://www.industry2industry.com. For a more complete list of other search-engine-friendly directories accepting free or minimal fees, visit http://info.vilesilencer.com.

Google Adsense: What You Need to Know!

We read about how to develop a Google AdWord campaign, but where do these ads get featured? To think that the advertisements feature only on Google depending on the keywords searched by users is not true as that isis only part of the ad exposure. Google AdSense can be considered the other half of AdWords. AdSense allows website owners to feature relevant Google ads on their website which matches user profile with the profile requirement of each ad and also allows website owners to EARN revenue via the traffic generated by website.
